JOHN MCAULIFFE
Coach John is the senior statesman in SG Basketball’s coaching lineup. He has years and years of playing and coaching experience and continues to engage actively today as our oldest player and coach. He is a passionate man who also loves art and drawing, as seen in his personal collection of beautiful art work.
P.K. ONG
Known by many of his friends as “The Basketball Man”, Coach PK is all things basketball. Having started Jammers League from the ground up and later co-founding SG Basketball, he has no lack of participation in the local basketball scene. Coach PK was the first leading coach to help pioneer ActiveSG’s basketball program, as well as that of MOE’s Junior Sports Academy (JSA) program.
His ties with basketball has seen him being a media guest at the 2015 NBA All-Star weekend in New York, and he has brought young players and their families to San Francisco for Singapore’s one and only GS Warriors Camp in 2018 and 2023!
T.Y. Ng
Like Coach Derick, Coach TY is one of SG Basketball’s first team of coaches, seeing the academy grow from Day 1. As a player, he is a dependable inside presence who can also shoot the mid-range well and defend like a beast. Coach TY is often called the “Toddler' Specialist” for his ability to connect and coach very young kids. His loud booming voice can be heard from far and he is always ready to share a laugh with trainees.
Derick Lee
With his boyish good looks worthy of a Korean idol, Coach Derick or Coach D as he is affectionately known, is one of SG Basketball’s first coaches who has grown over the years into a mature and articulate coach who is not only popular with the trainees but also known for his strict discipline and ‘tough-love’ approach to training.
XAVIER LAI
A man of many talents, Coach Xavier is also a professional basketball referee. Xavier is creative with his basketball drills and does a great job with kids of all levels. His coaching philosophy is that you need to reach a certain level of creativity, challenge and freedom for basketball. “Your training and effort won’t fail you, believe it and stay consistent,” quips Xavier.
REMUS LOW
Growing up, Coach Remus was a hyperactive child who had too much energy and didn’t know what to do with it. He was introduced to basketball and the rest was history.
He has since become a National Team player and represented Singapore locally and overseas in international competition. His list of playing achievements is long and star-studded. As a coach, he is affable and well-liked by the young trainees and he is able to impart his skills effectively to them.
Beverly Tan
The rose among the thorns, Beverly is one of our coaches who has learnt to work very well with young kids. She is approachable and friendly and kids adore her.
