JOHN MCAULIFFE

The senior statesman of SG Basketball’s coaching lineup, Coach John brings decades of seasoned basketball wisdom to the academy. A true fundamentals-driven coach, he continues to actively guide players while also taking the court as our oldest athlete. His approach is both patient and insightful, shaped by years of mentoring players at every level. Off the court, his passion for the arts mirrors the same creativity and precision he applies in his coaching.

P.K. ONG

Affectionately known as “The Basketball Man”, Coach PK is a visionary leader in player development. As the co-founder of SG Basketball, he has been a driving force behind the local basketball scene. His innovative coaching methods were instrumental in pioneering ActiveSG’s basketball program and MOE’s Junior Sports Academy (JSA).

Coach PK’s player-focused philosophy extends beyond Singapore—he has been featured at the 2015 NBA All-Star Weekend in New York and has organised immersive overseas experiences such as the Golden State Warriors Camps in San Francisco (2018, 2023). His coaching reflects a blend of passion, innovation, and community-building.

T.Y. Ng

One of SG Basketball’s founding coaches, Coach TY has been part of the academy’s journey since Day 1. On the floor, he is a reliable post presence with a strong defensive mindset and a smooth mid-range game. But his real reputation lies in being the a toddler developmental coach who excels at introducing very young kids to the sport.

With his energetic and motivational style, booming voice, and humour, Coach TY creates sessions that are both engaging and skills-oriented, ensuring that kids learn the basics while enjoying the game.


Derick Lee

Known affectionately as Coach D, Derick has grown into a disciplined and structured coach since SG Basketball’s earliest days. His coaching style blends tough-love training methods with structured player development, ensuring his athletes build both skill and resilience.

Charismatic yet demanding, Coach D has earned respect for being both a motivational mentor and a strict trainer, driving players to reach their full potential while instilling a strong work ethic

XAVIER LAI

A coach who is certified as a referee and a personal trainer, Xavier brings a multi-dimensional understanding of the game to his training sessions. He designs creative and progressive drills that encourage players to think, adapt, and enjoy the game at every stage of development.

Xavier’s coaching philosophy emphasises physical ability, consistency, effort, and freedom of play.

REMUS LOW

From a hyperactive child to a National Team athlete, Coach Remus embodies what basketball can achieve for personal growth. His career includes representing Singapore in major competitions, where he honed his skills as a high-level, high-performance player.

Now as a coach, he uses his elite experience to be an approachable and inspirational mentor. His player-centric and fundamentals-driven approach makes him popular with young athletes, who benefit from both his technical knowledge and his ability to make training energetic, motivating, and fun.


Beverly Tan

As one of SG Basketball’s standout female coaches, Beverly has built a reputation as a nurturing and developmental coach who excels with young kids. Her approachable and player-friendly style makes her a favourite among families, as she combines patience with structured teaching.

Her ability to create a positive, confidence-building environment ensures that kids not only pick up basketball skills but also develop a long-term love for the game.

Leshane

The youngest of SG Basketball’s part-time coaches, and yet one of the most accomplished. Leshane is a certified Division 1 Referee and a Women's Division 1 Player. A leader who captained the National Youth Team, her strong leadership skills guide her mission to nurture young athletes.

Leshane is dedicated to instilling respect and discipline while ensuring training is fun, helping athletes master the game holistically and grow into confident individuals both on and off the court.

john matthew

One of SG Basketball’s part-time coaches, Coach JM brings a teacher’s precision and a competitor’s fire - and yet a friend’s warmth - to his coaching sessions. A current player for SG Basketball’s NBL Division 1 team, he is also a 2-time D2 Champion and SBPL Season MVP

His background as both a player and mentor allows him to connect deeply with athletes. Specialising in ball-handling, footwork, shooting form, and finishing, he has worked with many youth teams and camps. JM’s sessions are structured yet dynamic, reflecting his belief that mastery comes through consistency, smart play, and a genuine love for the game.


Edward

Yet another of SG Basketball’s part-time coaches, Coach Edward blends playing experience and coaching insight to guide the next generation of athletes. A current NBL Division 1 player for SG Basketball, Coach Edward's perspectives are unique as he is a former-big turned versatile wing. He is known for his vocal communication skills, adaptability, defensive presence and willingness to run. He has multiple podium finishes across national and international youth tournaments, and is a current star in the Polytechnic-ITE basketball scene.

As an Assistant Coach for the Lions and Stingers clubs, Edward focuses on fundamentals and defence. Having attended the NBA Basketball Without Borders Clinic (2025), he brings energy and precision to every session, shaping smarter, more complete athletes.
